JAMES CURLEY COOKE, Executive Director:
has been active in the music business for 40 years. He is an original
member of The Steve Miller Band, and has recorded on 35 major
label albums and toured the country and Southeast Asia extensively.
He currently teaches in the community college system and privately,
and is the founder of Pacific Northwest Blues in the Schools.
He is the recipient of numerous awards from the Washington Blues
Society. |
NOURY BERNARD-HASAN: Noury is originally
from London, England, and moved to Seattle in 1997. In the late
1970s-early 1980s he was a professional guitarist, singer and
songwriter who recorded and performed all over the UK. He has
developed an engaging and interactive session on the history of
the blues that brings to life the key players and their music.
Noury also continues to play and record original compositions
and traditional blues. For the last 22 years, Noury has worked
in high-tech on both sides of the Atlantic and is currently in
his 14th year as an executive with the Microsoft Corporation.

DOUG McGREW (Drums): Doug is a Northwest
native, is one of the most sought after session players, playing
full time in the Seattle area and across the nation . His extensive
list of credits include work with Supersuckers, Albritton McClain
(Bridge of Souls), Michael Manring (Independent), Roger Fisher
(Heart), Chris Degarmo, Mike Wilton (Queensryche), Frank Hannon
(Tesla), Joe Shikany (Paul Rodgers Band), Lynn Sorensen (Paul
Rodgers Band) and Michael Powers, Tracy Arrington (Steve Miller
Band, The Doobie Brothers, Paul Rogers and Tower of Power, Curtis
Salgado), John Raymond( Kenny G) ....and many other bands. Doug
studied drums at Cornish College of Arts in Seattle. |
AL
ROWE (Bass): Al grew up in Chicago, IL, the birthplace
of "Chicago Blues." His musical influence began early in life
when, as a child, he was privileged to witness his grandfather
& Sunnyland Slim "jamming" in the family's living room. While
learning to play guitar as a youth, Al discovered the playing
style and musical arrangements of the late Jimi Hendrix, and ultimately
went on to become the winner of the "National Jimi Hendrix Guitar
Competition." He has since developed into an extraordinarily talented
musician. Al is not only a talented guitar player and vocalist;
he is as equally skilled on keyboards, drums and bass guitar.

NISI SHAWL (Creative Writing): Nisi
has developed and taught several youth-oriented writing classes,
including "Fun with Your New Head" (Garfield High School,
Seattle, 2004). In 2004 and 2005 she edited "BEYOND magazine",
which prints speculative fiction and poetry by teens. Her short
story "Cruel Sistah" was included in "The Year's Best
Fantasy and Horror #19" (St. Martin's, 2006). Her fiction has
also been published in leading science fiction print and Web magazines.
She contributed to "The Encyclopedia of Themes in Science Fiction
and Fantasy" (Greenwood Press, 2005) and "Women in Science Fiction
and Fantasy: An Encyclopedia" (Greenwood Press, 2007). With Cynthia
Ward, she co-wrote "Writing the Other: Bridging Cultural Differences
for Successful Fiction" (Aqueduct Press, 2005). A board member
for the Clarion West Writers Workshop, Nisi has appeared as a
guest speaker at Stanford University and Smith College. |
ALICE STUART: Alice Stuart's professional
career spans almost 5 decades. She was a trailblazer for women
in music in the 1960s and 1970s. Alice is not only a singer, but
a gifted songwriter and guitarist. She plays a wide variety of
musical styles and performs nationally and internationally as
a solo artist as well as with her band, The Formerlys. She is
also very much in demand as a teacher at various music camps and
workshops. Alice's first recording was released on Arhoolie Records
in 1964. Her latest, "Freedom", is a collaboration with
her band released in April 2007. For a complete history and discography,

ANNETTE TABORN (HARMONICA & VOCALS):
Annette has performed for over 30 years across the U. S. and overseas.
Originally from Michigan, she co-founded the Kalamazoo Valley
Blues Association in 1994, and created a Blues in Schools program
there that same year. She served as the Director of the Kalamazoo
Blues Festival for its first two years. Annette studied Blues
in Schools teaching methods at the University of Mississippi,
Oxford and received continuing education certification from the
Southern Studies Teachers Institute in 1996 and 1997. She worked
with the International House of Blues Foundation's "Blues
School House" program in Chicago during the 2000 school year.
In 2003 and 2004 she taught Blues in the Schools in Los Angeles
under the auspices of The Southern California Blues Society. Annette
is in charge of PNBIS Program Development. |
